What is a Medical Dermatologist?

Becoming a medical dermatologist requires physicians to spend one additional internship year in the field of general medicine and three years mastering the specialty of dermatology after medical school. Medical dermatologists learn about medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatological procedures during this training. Thanks to that extensive training, our team of medical dermatologists is uniquely equipped to treat various skin conditions and concerns in patients of all ages - from pediatrics to geriatrics. Our medical dermatology services include the following:

When to See a Medical Dermatologist?

How do you know when it’s time to see a medical dermatologist? Here are seven signs it’s time to book an appointment:

1

You’ve noticed a mole or area of skin that’s changed.

Changing marks, moles, blemishes, or skin patches could indicate skin cancer or another dermatological condition. Make an appointment with a dermatologist for a complete evaluation.
2

You’ve got acne that won’t go away, or is painful.

Acne can cause severe discomfort and scarring, and may even impact your self-esteem. If you’ve got stubborn acne, a medical dermatologist will be able to help.
3

You’ve got a rash that won’t go away.

If you’re experiencing an itchy rash or hives that aren’t going away on their own, visit a dermatologist to get screened for infections and other skin conditions.
4

You’ve got scars you want to get rid of.

Medical dermatologists can get rid of scarring from acne, blemishes, or scrapes. Make an appointment with Dermatology Associates to learn more.
5

Your skin is irritated.

Red, dry, scaly, or itchy skin is a sure sign that it’s time to visit a medical dermatologist.
6

You’ve got a nail disorder or nail fungus.

Because nails are made of keratin, the same material as our skin and hair, dermatologists can treat a wide variety of nail conditions.
7

You’re losing your hair.

Dermatologists will be able to make recommendations to help you prevent hair loss or reverse existing hair loss.
